Why Believix wings don't work underwater
The Winx club fairies have been underwater before in both season 1 episode 11, to safe Musa from the 'monster' under the island, and season 3 on multiple occasions. Therefore, it would be logical to assume that the Winx do not need a special transformation to go underwater. So why were Harmonix and Sirenix even needed in the first place? Why didn't the Believix powers and wings just work underwater like their magical power has always done?
To figure out why the Believix wings don't work underwater, we'll go back in time, all the way to when the Winx first went on an underwater mission. Yes, we're going back to season 1. The Winx were in their very first transformation, this was also the case in season 3. When you look at the wings (for example: Bloom's, which I have added on the left), you will probably notice that the wings are a lot smaller than the Believix wings from season 4 (seen in the picture below)
According to the natural laws of Physics, larger surfaces experience more pressure than smaller ones, especially underwater. It is also stated by Flora in season 5 episode 2 that her wings were stuck, which could be the result of the water blocking the movement of the wings: up and down. The Magic Winx wings were able to go through the water a lot easier than the Believix wings, because they were smaller. This is all very well, but to prove that this is the case, we should take a look at the Harmonix and Sirenix wings as well.
As you can see, both the Harmonix and Sirenix wings are a lot smaller than the Believix wings and they're only a little bigger than the Magic Winx ones. The Sirenix wings are even shaped to let more water pass.
Then there's another thing about the wings. In season 5 episode 1: The Spill, when Layla dives into the water, her fairy wings lose their sparkles. This can also be explained. The wings from the very first season didn't have (all that many) sparkles. Harmonix has hearts, flowers, stars, music notes... I think you get the idea, but again: No sparkles. The shapes were seen in the wings and were not on the wings. Even the Sirenix wings do not have sparkles. But then why do the sparkles disappear from the Believix wings? This can be easily explained: When you put something with sparkles into water, the sparkles will detach from the surface they have been sticked on and they will practically dissolve.
So, were Harmonix and Sirenix even needed? I think they were. The magic of Believix is focused on the believals of people and I don't think people associate fairies with swiming. Swiming would be more easily associated with creatures like mermaids, which is practically the whole point of Sirenix (a siren is some kind of mermaid, a sea creature). That could be yet another reason why the Believix power doesn't work underwater, simply because people don't believe fairies are meant to be underwater. And to be honest, there aren't any people in the sea to believe in them. They lack the source of their power when they enter the oceans in their Believix form, the believing people. That's why they went on their search for Sirenix. They had to find a new source of power to be able to roam in the water as easily as flying. Sirenix is a power that comes from the ocean itself, the source is directly connected to their mission. But how can you reach Sirenix if the search is held underwater and your powers don't work? Yup, that's why Harmonix was given to the Winx, solely to complete their quest for Sirenix. That's why it doesn't co-exist next to Sirenix like Bloomix did with Mythix or like Butterflix did with Tynix.

I really loved how you explained that sirenix was needed! A lot of people say Sirenix wasn't needed and is unnecessary, which in my opinion is not true! I really am enjoying your blog! Maybe you should do a theory on why you think Roxy didn't get her butterflix. And also sorry that I am writing in English, I am not a Dutch speaker.

I hear those complaints very often as well, I guess some Winxers just want a reason to justify their hate for season 5, whereas my friends and I tend to look more into the details, which led to this theory (and others).

I totaly love your theory, maybe ur next theory can be about Roxy, why isn't she one of the winx ? I guess it waq Bloom or Miss Faragonda who said Roxy was and still is good at learning spells. Like season 4 was all about her... then she came only often in the serie... like Butterflix is all about animals... she had to have Butterlfix in my opinium and why didn't she started with the first transformation like eatch other fairy... if she can have Believix at fiest then Butterflix wouldn't have been such a big deal you know... it's frustrading me a lot haha
